Winter Workshops - Sweetheart Basket

9:00am

Join us on February 18th for the third and final class of our Winter Workshop series! When settlers arrived in East TN in the 1700s, they brought basketry traditions with them. Basket-making skills were valuable to settlers as they used them to transport everything from food to tools to linens and more. Many baskets were also works of art created out of necessity.  Join instructor, Sheri Burns, to create your own work of art - our adorable Sweetheart Basket. Measuring approximately 12" tall (including handle) - x 8" wide,  the basket is constructed on a solid wood base using the traditional “over and under” weave with a hinged-handle that folds to the side.

The Sweetheart Basket class is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $45 for Friends of Ramsey House members and $50 for non-members.

Sheri Burns Bio
A retired homeschool mom of 4, as well as a practicing nurse for the last 30 years, Sheri first learned basketry 18 years ago as an extension of being a homeschool teacher. While teaching Appalachian history to her children, she took her first basket class, so she could make baskets with her kids and fell in love with the art form. Sheri is passionate about teaching the art of basket weaving as well as continually learning new styles and techniques.
