Educational programs are
offered
in addition to a tour of the house. All
programs integrate social studies, science, and math. The programs allow
you to see and experience how people lived in the 1800’s.
The following programs are offered (all are adaptable for middle school and
high school):
Butter
Churning:
Using stoneware butter churns,
participants will experience the time and
effort it takes to make butter. Participants will be able to taste and take
home their butter. (Grades K and up)
Candle Dipping:
Participants will make candles
as was done in the 1800’s. They will experience what it takes to make candles,
as well as some secrets of candle making. Participants can choose from a variety
of colors and take their candles home. (Grades K and up)
Drying Foods:
Participants will learn how to
dry foods through hands on experience. They will
prepare the foods for drying and then take the foods with them to complete the
drying process. All foods are able to be eaten. (Grades 2 and up)
Toys and Games:
Participants will play with
toys and learn games children had and played in the
1800’s. (Grades K and up)
Traveling Trunk:
The Traveling Trunk is a hands
on mini-museum that can be checked out by
educators. The program is suited for classrooms or groups who are unable to take
a field trip. This is a free program, sponsored by the Board of Directors.
Information and Reservations:
Picnic and indoor eating facilities, rest rooms, and museum shop are available.
Group house tours are $2.00 per student for school groups and $3.00 per person
for adult group tours. Interactive Learning Experiences are an additional $3.00
per
person, per activity. There is no charge for teachers, bus drivers, or
chaperons.
